An Overview of some performers at ROH Muscat

In the upcoming three months, the Royal Opera House Muscat will kick off with an amaziiiing multiple world-wide performances ranging from opera to ballet.

As there are many brilliant choices to choose from, I wouldn’t be able to attend them all!

So Yesterday, while me & Prodeve were checking the program and each performer’s work, we got an idea to put some of the results in a YouTube playlist for anyone who’s interested to check them out. Here are the playlists:

Renée Fleming overview

About Google’s Flash Maps API Abandonment

In Yesterday’s news, Google has announced that it is deprecating its support and any further development for the Flash Maps API which was used to integrate Google Maps into Flash & ActionScript projects.

I won’t say I was expecting this announcement but it was obvious. Since day one, when I started working with the API, in order to use it in one of the projects I was developing using it I encountered so many limitations but most importantly, a shortage of documentation and support.

While I won’t deny the existence of a great supporting community for it and the pleasure with working on a unique API like this, the main problem with most advanced Flash projects is the performance. And building a “Flash” project using Google Maps API wasn’t an exception. Google has worked hard to update and improve the performance of its API in order to improve the overall result but I guess the main part which it couldn’t touch and improve was the Flash itself. So the abandon decision knocked the door.

I am even surprised it had to make an announcement. Shut it down, nobody is using it.

About The “Popular” Angry Birds Cake

As usual, this is a quick post to my personal temporary blog which is taking its shape day by day!

Anyway, Yesterday I threw a birthday party and the theme was all about the most popular game on the iPhone: Angry Birds, as the concerned person was a real addict of the game. Naturally, anyone would think of making a cake that goes along with the theme. But unfortunately it’s rare to find a place to turn your dreams into reality. But I was lucky to find out before a while about a local talent whose words can’t express how much I admire her work, I think she’s Apple of cakes in the whole country! considering that it’s all a personal efforts (a freelancer?) . I always do like to throw a unique parties and finding about SweetSen_sation is like assuring that there is someone will execute my challenging idea and transfer them into reality!

I know it has been done before but I’m pretty sure it’s the 1st “decent” Angry Birds cake in the Middle East! And just today, the picture of the cake made it to the popular section of  the simply-premium photo-sharing network on the iPhone “Instagram” this means that there a big chance for the photo to be seen by 4 million users all around the globe!!!!!

Anyhow, the whole point of this post is the following: many friends wondered why I didn’t post many pictures of the cake. well about that, hmmm. I really want to say why but I can’t! consider it a secret but the good news is I can’t tell because I would tell in a short period of 2-3 months or more. It’s not something to look for so much but I’ve a small idea trying to start working on & I thought I’ll use the cake’s pictures if I ever executed that idea!!!

But of course it’s not a top secret idea I am talking about so I’ll post a few photos عشان خاطر عيونكم.

HaHaa I love writing a “persoal” blog posts where I can go on loose on emotions and whatever I like!!! :D

Instaremover

First of all, sorry for the unintended spam on Twitter on my friends’ time-line Yesterday’s night (it wasn’t that much spam, but sorry anyway) where it all began and here is the reason why:

Months ago, I began to use those “Read It Later” services which let you pin any link and keep it for later to read it when you have a free time. Works perfectly on the articles that pops during the day. I wasn’t relying on those services much until I seriously organized my feeds and got the best sources of the news I actually care about. When interesting articles which cannot be missed began to stack, not a news but seriously good articles and useful contents which you can’t just do it the “mark as read” way in Google Reader.

Anyhow, after giving a good time to the few alike services I decided to go with Instapaper (which is not the point in this post to explain why but let’s just say they are the best! he is?) of course if you use the service as much as I do, you can’t but buy the 4.99$ pro version of the app for the iPhone and the iPad.

And if you were following my tweets recently, you will notice that I began to share more interesting links, thanks to the connection feature between Instapaper and Twitter which will post any article the same moment I hit “like” under it (unless I was offline which will do the same the moment I go online).

BUT THE THING THAT BURNED MY NERVES IS: Instapaper appends this to your tweet: “(via Instapaper)” !!! I couldn’t believe it when I saw it! Instapaper is just the service laying between the original website and me, so when I wanted to share something from that website, Instapaper is out of the equation!!! And more I couldn’t believe it when I saw that you can’t alter this from the settings or anywhere, so I had to improvise. And so what I did: I wrote a script that will monitor my tweets 24/7 and immediately destroy any tweet with the “(via Instapaper)” phrase and rewrite the original tweet without it. So now what you can see is only a good and clean tweets.

Here is an example of how the original twets looks like:

Video: Hacker takes over Times Square video with an iPhone http://j.mp/gA2oiq (via Instapaper)less than a minute ago via Instapaper

And here it is after chopping off the “(via Instapaper)” :

Video: Hacker takes over Times Square video with an iPhone http://j.mp/gA2oiqless than a minute ago via Instaremover

That I did “on the go” Yesterday, I didn’t even bother to test from another account like @devilopar so to warm-up my dusty functions that communicate with Twitter, I let the script run and tweet on my behalf a random things like “Tweet Tweet” whenever I get a successful authorized connection to Twitter which I was deleting immediately but thanks to the “Stream API” supported clients such as TweetDeck, people were able to see my testing tweets immediately even though I was deleting them after a seconds :D but nobody was upset, reversely, tweeps showed how cool they are! they started responding to my tweets with a similar funny tweets like :

@developar tweetnite :)less than a minute ago via web

@developar brrr brrr twitt tweet….less than a minute ago via Twitter for iPad

@developar is that the real u or the spam u ? :Pless than a minute ago via web

مشتاق مشتاق :) RT @developar: Tweet Tweet ;)less than a minute ago via TweetDeck

Why this is important? because if you noticed, the links I add to Instapaper, are mostly important, therefore when I like something from those, a big chance that my friends will probably like it too. It is the digest of my daily readings. Think of it like this: If I have about 5OO items from my feeds, I’ll have about 2O items to be read later so if I liked 4 or 5 items, a big chance that those are excellent links. 5OO > 2O > 5

A friend suggested that why don’t I make it a public service? of course there aren’t a lot of people who are obsessed with Instapaper or Reading things late like me, but seriously I would do it if at least one person is suffering (suffering !!!) from this too. So according to the feedback, I will be studying it although I don’t know if O have the authority to do something like this that may harm Instapaper’s terms of services but I think it’s related to Twitter more than Instapaper).

I could contact Marco and ask for a simple tweak in the settings! but you know what? why I will bother him? keep the guy doing his amazing work!

So yeah, developers 1 – tyranny 0 :D

A quick (BIG) update to the blog

Renewing the blog theme was one my resolutions for this year. And I already had the idea of how it will look like: simply me to the left with a speech balloon coming out of my mouth as I am the one who is talking to you! But guess what? I completed the core idea of the theme and uploaded it last night because I am expecting a huge traffic next week due to the official announcement of McDonald’s Big Mac story competition winner! which I got the 1st place in it if you don’t already know! (an official blog post about it soon too).

I liked the simplicity of the beta, basic theme right now, different than what I was planning to from adding a top bar to a left floating menu… so let it be and let the blog viewers enjoy it from now!

Ciao 2O1O

I always do it, I always promise my loyal readers that I will blog more often but I just don’t!

I’d be lying if I said there was no time to blog, there is no “no time” to blog, you just blog when you feel it, there is no rules, no deadlines and no restrictions.

So from now on there is no such a promise, I will do it when there is something to blog about. But I know I will be posting more in the new year, read on to know why?

It is this time of the year where everybody post about his next year’s “resolutions”, while I don’t believe in the timing of such a thing because if you were serious about doing something, you will just start doing it immediately without the “new year” starting line.

And recently so many events occurred forcing me to take a new approach and plan for the upcoming days, and it happened to happen recently so here I am with everyone declaring my resolutions for the next year “which I already started doing/following” ! and of course those are the things that the public may know about, I won’t say that I am going to Spain or something…

- Redirect all the posts from all my various blogs to here only.

- Focus on a few projects that I am working on rather than the HUGE amount of projects that under progress now.

- Follow more interesting blogs locally & globally that AFTER reading the great blogs my friends have.

- To affiliate more on the personal blogging and be more involved in the “blog-sphere”. Not only official blog posts and columns.

- Gadgets-less year: I’m planning to go easy on having a new toys. Because honestly I keep coming back to Apple’s products after testing others products.

- Shutdown some start-ups I launched secretly and focus on the rest :)

- Study any step I am going to do 1OO times before deciding!

- Unsubscribe from a couple of not-so-interesting podcasts ans subscribe to a new ones.

- Get rid of the old data I’ve since years (hello dusty floppies!!!!!!) what is the floppy disk? :P

- And read more books (beside the technical and programming books) oh, I mean e-books :)

Regarding my beloved blog:

- Remove the current Windows XP theme because I installed it just for the sake of the geeky feel of it. But then a lot of people thought it was made by me, which is not! and I had to explain to each one that it is not me and I had to gave the credit to the original designer.

So I am planning to make a very simple layout soon with a nice tweak! wait for it.

oh, and as everyone knows how much I’m obsessed with changing my DP (avatar) on twitter, I just instantly created this blue guy which is on the right of this post, to bring everyone’s attention that there is something new in my blog :D

This blog post was written first before 2O11, during 2O1O and after 2O11 so enough writing and it is the right (too late) time to blow the dust away from it :D

Dee Is Back To Bee!

What a weird title for a new blog post after being away from blogging here1 for months but I can say that I’ve successfully avoided the shameful title of the “1-post-per-year” person as my last one was in July 13 which is after 1 week only! .

Back to the title, if you are still wondering what is Dee & Bee, no, it’s not related to the honey nor the honeymoon I had (just joking, you believed it?) it’s simply “Developar Is Back To Blogging” but with a style for nothing but to force everyone to read it (otherwise who will read a new post from an ancient blog?) .

Ok Anyway please don’t be disappointed from the look of the blog, the current “Windows” theme was a temporary option, but then, a lot of visitors liked the geeky feel of it, so I am keeping it for a while, but of course I will improve some small parts here & there.

As I feel this will be a blog about a random stuff beside web/software development, I’m planning to open a sub-section to share coding snippets from what I find around the web, as I get a plenty of useful links & resources & sharing it through Twitter only may not last long, therefore a few people will get benefit from those “treasures” I call.

I really wasn’t away from blogging, I blog, a lot! but not here, and occasionally when people see my posts somewhere, they do visit my website, and they take a tour around the sections, so I don’t want to disappoint them + last year I was really active on a multiple social networks with a BIG share for Twitter, and I made so many friends through it, but I feel I want to be more connected with everybody and their blog-sphere, you don’t know, maybe one day the #FAIL Whale will just go for good & we will stay without Twitter (Google Silly Buzz Anyone?) so please comment if you are reading this si I can “capture” your blog url.

Ok, that’s a lot of words already so just to conclude I will list what are my plans for my l0vely bl0g:
- The theme as I said: I liked it after a while, so only small improvements around won’t hurt, a lot of stuff has to be changed, will update you when I am done to see the difference.
- Add more information in my about page, as I’ve been accused of being an obscure bot [o_o].
- Oh, and there will be a reference page for all flavors my avatar get, a lot of people asked about it.

….. I’m out of ideas, I wonder why? I had like a zillion thing to blog about…. aha, yes, I didn’t have my 1st cup of coffee!.

It’s really impressive how many good friends I made from social networks only, from different countries! I l0ve you guys.

Why Media Loves the iPhone?

ymedialuviph

- iPhone gave the media a lot of free contents to write about, I mean just see any tech website, you will find hundreds of articles and news about it.
- Podcasts now are filled with that (I was checking Tech Report podcast on iTunes and between each 5 podcast there is something about the iPhone.
- People loves the iPhone and news publishers wanna sell, so give people what they like.
- a lot of iPhone haters also will read about it on media, HaHaa.

ymedialuviph2

As I’m always using this method to check how popular the this is, I will use it here:

Simply search for “iPhone” in Google it will give about 423,000,000 results, but for example if you searched for “Nokia” (which founded a years ago and have a hundreds of devices) will give 319,000,000 results !!! (in today’s date of this post)

I was shocked at the previous results, it is really a shocking fact!

A lot to talk about, but this is my draft, will add new thoughts when I feel like doing it :P
